Campus Historical Markers

In my role as Special Collections and Digital Initiatives Librarian at The University of Alabama Libraries,
• My team created the Campus Historical Markers digital exhibit in response to Black Lives Matter and increasing criticism from the university community and the public on the names of campus buildings. The purpose was to provide a digital representation of the historical marker and its geographic location, as some buildings were being renamed along with removing the historical marker.
• Built in Omeka S.
• Utilized GIS coordinates to create a custom Google Map to allow users to identify the exact location of the historical marker or where it once was located.
• Linked to digital collections (CONTENTdm) showing historical images of the buildings and historical markers.
